Particulate Filters
A Particulate Filter (also known as an after-filter) is usually located just after the desiccant air dryer to capture any abraded desiccant particles entrained in the compressed air. Flow through the filter element is from the outside-to-inside, which uses the larger outer surface area to catch more dust. They are also used to remove harmful pipe scale, dirt, and rust inside piping ahead of any operational equipment or process. If the particulate filter gets soiled more frequently than what is typical for your environment, it may be time to replace the desiccant.
